The US Global Positioning System, more commonly know as GPS, can trace it’s roots all the way back to ground based radio navigation systems that were used in World War II. In 1956 a German physicist studying the theory of relativity proposed an experiment using satellites and atomic clocks. When Sputnik launched in 1957 two American physicists were able to track the capsule using thanks to the doppler effect they noticed while monitoring radio transmission with the craft. Ultimately it’s from these early discovers that the GPS as we know it was developed.

Over the years, many different electronics companies have come out with their own GPS devices. These are extremely useful when it comes to navigating from one place to another or even finding specific attractions along one’s path to a specific destination. However, when it comes to brands of GPS devices, there is one that has been there since the beginning and that has remained the most popular throughout the years.

You might think of your satellite navigation system as something that you simply use to get from Point A to Point B. However, as useful as it is in this capacity, there are some more imaginative things that you can do with it to have fun and make use of this powerful technology.
One popular activity is known as geo-caching. People will leave weather-proof containers at certain places and then post the coordinates online. You can put those coordinates into your GPS unit and set off to find the container, which holds a logbook that you (more…)
These days, an increasingly large number of people rely on satellite navigation technology as a way of getting where they need to go on a regular basis. For the most part, long gone are the days of having to use a road map or compass to find out how to get from point A to point B. Instead, many of us have grown accustomed to receiving instant turn-by-turn directions. However, if we are to rely on this technology so heavily, it is wise to understand just how it works.
Satellite navigation technology, despite how intricate it seems, it actually relatively (more…)
When you want to find your way around town or a new neighborhood, you might take out a satellite navigation device. In fact, you’ve actually done this plenty of times. Still though, despite your familiarity with the device, you have no idea how it actually works in reality.
Well, satellites are established in various regions, and these help to connect with your personal devices. When they connect, your device is able to pick up the satellite. In very remote or rural parts of the country, you might find that you (more…)
